The villa at Hroznova street in Brno, which is known as the „government villa“- in may 1945 it becomes a residence of president Dr.Edvard Benes - is the work of the architect Arnost Wiesner, one of the leading representatives of Brno functionalism, and dates from 1927.
This is Wiesner's largest and most demanding construction of the so-called „suburban villa“ type, a concept derived from the work of A. Loos.
The building is among the most significant works of architecture in Brno, and its technical facilities were unprecedented in this country at that time (the Tugendhat Villa was built three years later). The creator of the garden, which area is almost 30 000m2, was Otto Eisler, likewise a highly admired architect of the day. Today it is listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments.
It is located in a quiet villa district in Brno near the centre and close to the area of trade fairs and exhibitions.
room

room The interior, in which Wiesner employed luxurious materials such as travertine, marble of superior structure and color and exotic types of wood, was originally conceived in an individualistic modern style. During the time of the former communist Czechoslovakia, it was superficially decorated by items removed from the collections of a number of castles.
